Great article. Your proposal humanitarian which is the opposite of the way almost all business works.

Sadly most of your points will never work.

I lived in the Dominican Republic for a summer with soon to be wife...a very poor family. Her mom, and two sister worked in a textile factory making stuff for Banana Republic. They were paid around $5 a day. If they would have been paid a living wage the plant would have closed immediatly or Banana Rep would have had to double the price of thier clothes here. ..thus they'd have to go out of business or we'd be paying double for all thier products. thats true for all products we buy from overseas minus products from Europe.

I'm a teacher. My immigrant students from Guatemala all had to work on coffee plantations after school. They earned 3-5 dollars a day. If the plantations owners were forced to pay a living wage, Starbucks would never be able to afford the price hike of Guatemalan coffee beans or we'd be paying $8 for a tall coffee.

These are the reasons why most of our products come from overseas...because people sell their labor for very low...they are exploited because the owners can get away with it and Americans don't see it. paz
