I'm an inner city high school ESL teacher...27 years and no plans to retire. Why?

If I may...you're teaching indoctrinated entitled bored middle class suburban white kids....thats the worst...I know because I was one of them in the early 80's. I'd never never teach to that group.

Try changing to a school with a different population. Believe me, there are schools with kids that actually value education and don't see teachers as "the enemy". https://www.chron.com/opinion/outlook/article/State-testing-fails-immigrant-students-and-their-4317567.php

I teach newly arrived immigrant students from all over the world...since '93. They are totally GRATEFUL to be in school. Some stand when I enter the room, they call me "sir" , bring me food, rarely act out....If there is a problem, alls I have to do is call home. They're great...the love is mutual.

You can choose where you teach...especially now.

If you have a real vocation, and you want to help mold kids that are open....try something different.

peace
