I’m real clear that my white skin has given me advantages over people whose skin is darker. No doubt. I could explain in a hundred ways but I’m not totally on board with this article. Sure racism exists….but I’ve never seen an over act (white onblack) in my whole life…and i live in Texas! Have I just not been in the right place at the right time? When I go to a restaurant, check out line, or other service oriented business I’m on the lookout….I’m not being facetious…but I’ve not seen any white people dising blacks. If they did, I know the AA’s would stand up say something….and i would as well. So far, I’ve seen nothing.

I work in a title 1 public school and I have seen MANY acts of overt racism….usually kids of color to eachother….mostly hispanic. There’s a pecking order in the immigrant population that is subtle but strong. Mestizo/ladino over idigenous…white hispanics over the rest. I’d love to see the spanish news outlets report on this as much as they report on the border wall and all the “racist” americans that want to keep migrants from entering the country in an orderly fashion…..but i’ve never seen it. My sense is that it would not be good for ratings if the cameras were rolling at the Guatemalan border as Mexican police exact bribes or sex from migrants. It’s just not as sexy a story as the ongoing Trump vs Migrants story.
